More Than The Baby Blues: EverythingBranded Donates Fidget Spinners to Help Curb Anxiety and Depression in Mothers

July 13, 2021

Many people have heard of the ‘baby blues’ and will put an expecting or current mothers’ low moods, extra emotions and tearfulness down to just that. However, issues such as perinatal, antenatal, and postnatal depression are a lot more common than first thought, extending way beyond just a few bad days. Pregnancy and new life are supposed to be a joyous time in a women’s life, making it harder for those to come forward when they are experiencing symptoms of depression and anxiety. That is why support groups such as Incredible Babies have formed in Sheffield.

Incredible Babies

Perinatal Mental Health and Sheffield City Council have teamed up to deliver a fantastic support group called Incredible Babies. The group is designed to offer weekly support to mothers suffering from post-natal depression and/or other Mental ill health challenges. The programme runs for 12 weeks, and each week has a different focus of wellbeing. During one of those weeks, they focus on the use of distraction techniques to help focus and redirect the nervous energies of anxiety or a building panic attack. Jenny Lyons, one of the nurses that heads up the programme, found that fidget spinners were a great example of how to do this. Jenny came to us by chance, to ask if we could donate some. We were more than happy to oblige.

Give it a Spin and Join EverythingCommunity!

EverythingCommunity, the charitable arm of EverythingBranded, organised the donation and sent enough fidget spinners for each participant of the Sheffield Perinatal Mental Health Community programme, Incredible Babies. They were well received by the programme managers and will be given as a gift of encouragement and support to the mothers who attend.
